SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - SURVIVING AN UPSTREAM SWIM

Do you think that those salmon swimming upstream, getting battered and bruised, stop to think:
"What did I do to deserve this?"

There is a reason we have that ubiquitous expression - "Sh#@ happens!"
It's because sometimes it just does.

The difficult things we are dealing with are challenging enough without us 'piling on' by berating ourselves for causing them!

LET YOURSELF OFF THE HOOK!  IT'S NOT ALWAYS YOUR FAULT!

The true meaning of Karma is very different from how we Westerners have often interpreted it…
You are not being punished!
Really!

3 STEPS FOR SURVIVING A TOUGH SWIM:

1)  Release the hook.

*Are you increasing your difficulty by accusing yourself of wrong-doing?

*Ask yourself if this is helping you get through the problems.

*Even in those cases where you might have some complicity, don't make things harder by scolding yourself.  It's a waste of your energy!

2)  Ask for help.

*Reach out to others for support and assistance.

*Be clear about what you actually need.

3)  Be good to yourself through tough times.

*There's always something you can do to give yourself a lift…

*When all else fails - breathe!

We have a tendency to hold our breaths during times of duress - just when we are most in need of deep breathing!

In his autobiography, "Warrior", Israeli Ariel Sharon, who died this past week, speaks about resilience and the will to survive.
