SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - DOES SCOLDING EVER WORK?

Scolding does not tend to be an effective strategy for long term change.  In fact, one of the best ways to imprint a bad habit is by scolding!

Sound strange?

Think about it.  How many times did a parent saying "Don't do that!" really stop you?  For how long?

I keep thinking about this guy who screams "No!" at his dog all the time.  He shocks the dog with his loud voice, the behavior stops - for about 2 minutes - the dog shakes his head, re-groups - and goes back for seconds!

Dogs and humans are not that different in this!

How often has scolding yourself actually changed your behavior?

DANCE WITH IT!   EXPERIENTIAL APPS

An opportunity to experiment with some fun
ideas...

TAKE A LOOK AT WHERE YOU'RE STUCK AND THINK ABOUT 'UNPINNING' BEHAVIORS THAT YOU NO LONGER WANT...

An emotional anchor is a hook that has allowed a behavior to 'adhere' to you.

Our emotional anchors are made up of words.

Did your mom ever attach gloves to your jacket with a safety pin so that you wouldn't lose them?

We attach our behaviors with emotional safety pins made up of these words.

Take a minute to think about the word anchors you use:
    I can't
    I won't
    I never
    I always
    I don't

Now think about the behaviors or habits you use them to attach to yourself...

Eating?
Exercise?
Sleeping?
Drinking?
Smoking?

If you decide you have some habits you'd like to release, imagine unpinning your verbal safety pins -  and actually allow yourself to experience the sense of relief as you watch the behavior drift away…

Have some fun with this one!  Do this exercise as many times as you want until the attachment is totally gone!
