What
happens as we relax at bedtime that allows the night creatures - in the form
of daytime worries - to intrude?
Sleep
is crucial to human beings and part of our normal genetic make up.
Recent
studies have shown that neurotoxins that build up in the brain during waking
hours are cleared out during our sleep.
The
system through which the ‘cleanup’ takes place is called the glymphatic system
and research has shown that it is much more active during sleep.

A 5 STEP PROGRAM TO BANISH THE NIGHT ‘INTRUDERS’
1) A big no-no is clashing swords!
Instead of fighting
against the worrisome intruders, acknowledge their presence!
2) Find a way to
neutralize them!
Make notes and put them in another room, close the door and tell
the problems to ‘cook’ while you are sleeping and that you will revisit them in
the morning.
Another idea: put the notes
in a special box and imagine locking them away for the night.
3) Have a dialog with
the intruders:
“Hey,” you might say, “I’m not ignoring you, but if you go into
this magic box and wait until morning I will be much better at fixing you!”
4) Make your sleeping
area a ‘meditation location’:
Create an oasis of calm to sink into. Pay attention to:
Colors
Visual quiet
Comfort
Warm or cold
Soft or hard
5) Have something
soothing that you can stare at as you drift off…
