THE WEIGHT LOSS CHA CHA

"What's wrong with me?" she asked in a truly pathetic voice.

"Every time I tell myself I am going to lose weight," she continued, "I gain it!"

"The minute the thought of a diet crosses my mind I start to CRAVE food!"

"Am I perverted, or what?!"

What do ya say?
Ever happen to you?

Know why?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - NO, I WON'T!

Words and how we use them are so important.

For instance, the word 'should' can be highly toxic!
Ever notice, how, when someone 'shoulds' you, your reaction is often of the knee-jerk variety?

"You should do x" almost always yields y!
And "You should not do x" almost always makes x irresistible.

'Should' no matter how well intended is a Bully word and most of us do not react well to being bullied!

"Up yours," I screamed as I shot myself in the foot…
Sound familiar?

How many times do you think you have harmed yourself by reacting rebelliously to bullying?

Think about all the times someone has scolded you about what you are doing.  What were they complaining about?

Did the 'problem' get better or worse?

DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!

"Ugh, I am so frustrated!" she announced as she came into the room.

"Remember," she continued, "the last time I saw you I told you that I lost all this weight?"

"And remember how happy I was?"
"Well, I gained it all back!"

"What happened?" I asked her.
"Nothing," she replied,"it just all changed…"

"Nothing?" I probed.

"Well, I did go to the doctor for a general checkup…"
"Yeah?" I prodded.

"And that bitch told me I needed to lose weight!"

What do ya say? Do you speak 'Rebel'?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE?

In our acts of rebellion - in our desire to set boundaries by drawing that defiant line in the sand - we sometimes push ourselves into untenable positions, behaving in ways that are not in our own best interests - just to make a point!

Back in the days when we began this behavior, we had to do it to assert our independence…

Now we need to ask ourselves if it still makes sense, and if so, in what form?

ideas...

DOES PUSHING BACK STILL MAKE SENSE?

The easy answer is NO!
After a certain age, (maybe early twenties?) the people we were pushing back against no longer have the same power over us…
Think about it:
Who are you really rebelling against now?
Someone put it really well when he said:  "My father has changed a lot.  HE no longer gets on my case… but his voice in my head is still loud and clear!"

*  So, who are you rebelling against now?
*  Who criticized you back then?  Parent, sibling, teacher, friend?
*  Are they really still on your case now?

Do you still:
*  Keep the fridge door open?
*  Leave the lid up on the toilet?
*  Wear clothes that THEY hated?
*  Eat forbidden food?
*  Get drunk?
What else is on your list?

Now ask yourself :
If those things hadn't been criticized would you still be doing them?
Do you really want to or are you still reacting to childhood bullies?

NO! NO! NO!

We talked about the inner Victim that turns our anger in on us, right?

But how about our inner Rebel?

You know, the terrible two year old that most of us are still carrying around someplace in our baggage…

Do you know this part of you?
What a question…

Anytime you don't do what you're supposed to do - HELLO REBEL!
