SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - PRESTO CHANGO

Magic has always held a special fascination for most humans.

Magical thinking allows us to expand the scope of what we believe is possible.

We can empower ourselves through the use of our fantasies…

Our dreams and magical thinking open the door - first to investigating what we are craving and missing in our lives - and then to using the power of our imagination to create the changes we are looking for.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO MAGICALLY CHANGE?

First, create your own 'magic wand'.

What would it look like?  Might it have a sound?
Can you imagine holding it?  Swinging it?  Bonking things with it?
How do you feel?  Powerful?  Silly?

Make a list of the things that you would like to be different in your life.

Create a mental image of these things.
Now use your 'magic wand' to create imaginary change…
See the images shift to something more pleasing to you.

Do this twice a day and check out what happens!

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - GETTING OUT OF THE LOOP

Why hold onto self defeating beliefs - especially once you realize how toxic they are?

We've all heard people say negative things about themselves, ignoring any information that points in a different direction.

Haven't you wondered about this?
There has to be a payoff, right?

So, next time you're caught in a self defeating loop ask yourself: 'What is believing this actually doing for me?'
'Is it protective?  Is it trying to get me to look at something that I am avoiding?'

It truly is a part of human nature to go in the direction of rewards - even when we might not see them!

TO GET OUT OF THE LOOP TAKE THESE 4 STEPS:

1)  Find your negative loops:  What do you keep saying about yourself?
        I'm lazy
        I'm not likable
I'm mean, selfish, unlovable, not skilled…

2)  Find the 'proof' you use to reinforce the loop.
I don't have as many friends as others
I don't make as much money as others
I get involved with people who are not good for me

3)  Ask yourself when you started believing this about yourself.
Who might have introduced you to this way of thinking?

4)  Finally ask yourself what might change in your life if you got out of the loop?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - AND WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR?

As we've been noticing, how we define ourselves is a function of many factors including family and community beliefs.

However, when these beliefs are detrimental to our health and well being perhaps it is time to let them go.

One of our 80+ year old friends told us about meeting a new arrival to her retirement community.

"So," she asked the newbie, "and what brought you here?"

"I came here to die," the newcomer stated.

"That," our wise friend informed her, "is the stupidest thing I ever heard!"

An opportunity to experiment with some fun
ideas...

Imagine that you could change some of the personal attitudes you've been carting around with you...

WHICH ONES WOULD YOU CHANGE?

* Make a list - this might include rules about who you are 'supposed' to be and how you 'should' act.

* What feelings come to you when you think about changing these things?  These feelings might range anywhere from joy to fear.

* Now imagine yourself making these changes.  Pay attention to your breathing.  What happens?

* Do a dress rehearsal.  Take one of these 'shifts' and actually try it out for a day.  Do you experience barriers to trying this?  What are they?  Can you identify where the 'noise' comes from?

*Finally, give yourself permission to throw off some of the unnecessary baggage that you've been carrying.
How does it feel?
