SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - PONLE ALAS A TU VIDA… FLY!

We often try for stability, both physical and emotional… but think about it…

STABILITY IS AN ILLUSION!

Everything - our earth - our lives - is always in motion.

If you try to hold still you are doomed to fail.

If you let yourself feel the weight shift - that amazing, subtle flow of energy - and go with it…  WOOEEE!

LEARNING TO ENJOY THE FLOW
Try this fun fantasy:

Imagine you are a bird floating on an air thermal.

Feel the wind under your wings and the wonderful powerful potential in responding with grace to the flow.

Can you add a sound track in your mind?

Try Patti Labelle's version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJEh9xLrF2I
or any version of "Wind beneath my Wings"

Think about a current circumstance in your life that is about change - perhaps a big one like a move, or a smaller one like a shift in a relationship.

Now go back to your bird energy.

Once again feel yourself flowing gracefully on the currents of air and imagine the changes in your life are like that air flowing under your wings… Can you hear the music?

Feel yourself responding with grace and anticipation of a smooth landing.

WHEEEE…

Ever watch someone trying to put on pants while they're standing?
Ever try it yourself?

WHOA!
Is that a lesson in humility, or what?

A very wise person once said, "It's not about stability… it's about balance!"

What do ya say?
Do you get this one?

With special thanks to Dr.Gregory Taylor, PT., DPT

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - NEED TO CHANGE IT UP?

You know that old saying 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'?

Here's another way to look at it:
If you know it's going to break, change the design…

What are we talking about?
It's simple.

By calibrating your own need for change, you can create routines that allow you to maintain momentum and achieve your goals!

WHAT'S YOUR PACE IN THE ROUTINE/CHANGE PATTERN?

Think about the routines that are part of your life:
Eating
Sleeping
Exercise
Entertainment
Learning
Working

Now ask yourself how these activities are functioning for you.
Are you happy with your ability to maintain them?
How about your interest level?

Are you still focused, excited, pleased with the results?
If you answered 'yes' then you have most likely found your balance between change and stability….

BUT
If your answer was 'no' ask yourself if a creative change might make a difference.

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - LOOKING FOR BALANCE

Balance is an important concept in our Universe and in our own individual lives.

When relationships get out of balance, we feel taken advantage of and angry.
Not a good place to be!

If you want an easy way to stay angry - stay in an out of balance relationship!

Ask yourself what you might get from 'putting out' where you are not getting back.

Take responsibility for putting yourself in that position… and step back!

THE POWER OF BALANCE - FEEL IT!

What creates balance in any relationship?

A great exercise with a partner to sensitize yourself to the feeling of balance:

Stand back to back and gently lean against each other.
What happens?
Can you feel the shifts in balance?
Check it out with your partner.  Verbally share what you experienced.
Now re-do the exercise.
Does it change?

Here's another exercise you can do, either on your own or with another person:

Take a moment to breathe deeply.
Think about your relationship with another person - choose anyone you want
Now visualize the two of you standing side by side
Experiment with changing your sizes
What happens?

We are using sensory cues to help us establish a feeling of interpersonal balance… With out it we fall!

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING – STRESS 101

The thing we call ‘stress’ is actually a reaction to factors that make us feel out of balance and the efforts we make to try to re-balance.

Homeostasis is a concept central to the idea of stress.

Most biochemical processes strive to maintain equilibrium, a steady state that exists more as an ideal and less as an achievable condition...

Factors causing an organism’s condition to diverge too far from homeostasis can be experienced as stress... an organism’s effortful attempt at restoring conditions back to or near homeostasis, often consuming energy and natural resources, can also be interpreted as stress.

Check out this “stress blueprint”.  Look at the three columns – Stress – Physiologic response – and reaction...

Think about your own life:

What are the things that stress you?

How does your body respond?

What are your early warning symptoms?

What actions do you take?
