SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - BE PREPARED!

Ever wonder why we tend to be ready for the worst?  Why would we 'borrow trouble' by anticipating the 'killer bees' when they are 10 states away?

We seem to be conditioned from very early ages to expect disasters and accordingly be ready to handle them.

Remember the Boy Scout Motto?

"In the third part of Scouting for Boys Robert Baden-Powell explains the meaning of the phrase:

The Scout Motto is: BE PREPARED which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your DUTY.

Be Prepared in Mind ... by having thought out beforehand any accident or situation that might occur, so that you know the right thing to do at the right moment, and are willing to do it.      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scout_Motto

"Watch out!"  "Be careful!"  "Think before you act!"
These are all catchwords in our culture.  The question is, to what extent they also become panic buttons that keep us in an unnecessary state of constant and stressful vigilance?

CREATING BALANCE

Is it wrong or unhealthy to be concerned about the future and prepare for possible coming events?

YES and NO…

It's all about balance and how much of your time is spent agonizing about future disasters…

Where is your balance?  Try answering the following questions:

1)  In the course of a day, how often do you find yourself worrying about tomorrow?

2)  How much of your day is spent anticipating negative events?

3)  When good things happen, do you duck, expecting 'the roof to fall in'?

4)  When others tell you tales of woe do you get scared that you are next in line?

5)  How often do you knock wood
