PICK YOURSELF UP…

How many times can you crash and burn at a particular task or goal and still get up and get back in the game?

Of course there's always changing the game plan and trying something different…

BUT …

Sometimes the plan really is good and it's just …  well… you!

Let's face it, no one ever said it had to work the first 100 times…

What do ya say?
Can you let yourself keep trying?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - RE-GROUPING 101

It is the ability to adapt to change that helps a species survive.

Within the framework of our individual lives that same adaptive quality allows us to minimize stress and improve our quality of life.

Given this important mechanism for survival - the healthy ability to shift and make corrections in our positions with the changes that come our way - what makes us freeze and go negative when plans change?

WHAT'S YOUR RE-GROUP-ABILITY SCORE?
Check the ones that fit for you:

When things change at the last minute I feel:

          1.  Lost
          2.  Angry
          3.  Depressed/paralyzed
          4.  Challenged
          5.  Excited

When others cancel on me last minute I:

          1.  Plan vengeance
          2.  Decide never to make plans with them again
          3.  Figure that they probably don't like me
          4.  Reach out to someone else
          5.  Rejoice to have some time to myself

If you checked 1-3 on either list ask yourself how you learned this way of thinking…

Getting stuck in anger at 'them' or yourself is an exercise in futility!

THE ART OF THE SHIFT

Soldiers learn it - Gamers live by it.

What's 'it'?

The ability to dance and shift with last minute changes.

Some of us always have a plan B stored in reserve.  Others enjoy the challenge of thinking on our feet and shifting with the tilts….

And some of us absolutely refuse to accept that - lets face it - we are always on a moving board!

What do ya say?
What's your position on this one?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

What we complain about in others often gives us valuable information about ourselves.

Sometimes, like the woman in yesterday's post, it helps us understand what we are creating.

If we step back and ask ourselves what our part in the particular story is - if we own what we are contributing to the problem - we can often take powerful steps in our own transformation!

Ever notice that what people tend to complain about in others is often true of themselves?

Check in to your pet peeves about others.

What are they?

Now ask yourself if perhaps someone else might be saying these exact things about you?

If you can step back and laugh at this point you know you've got it!

GET A CLUE…

My octogenarian friend was telling me about a woman she met who complained about everything…

"She just couldn't understand why her children never came to visit.  She complained and complained and …"

"Maybe," my elderly friend suggested, "if she just stopped complaining…"

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - REALITY? WHAT A CONCEPT!

Remember yesterday's post?

'Get a grip' ...means that the speaker believes that the person being spoken to is not thinking straight: … it is usually addressed to someone who doesn't understand the obvious…"

Why do we hold on to our fantasies about how others will behave in the face of concrete reality that points in the opposite direction?

Maybe part of it is our fear about what we would feel if we allowed ourselves to see the truth.

What do you think would happen?

REMEMBER THOSE THREE MONKEYS?  THE ONES WITH THEIR HANDS OVER THEIR EYES, MOUTH AND EARS…

Think about 2 or 3 examples of YOU refusing to face who someone else really is and how they are most likely to act towards you.

          Maybe a parent?
          A sibling?
          A friend?
          Lover?
          Spouse?

In each example ask yourself:

What happened?
What did they do?
How did you react?

Would the story have changed if you 'saw it coming' - if you had allowed yourself to face how this person was most likely to act?

What's in it for you to hold onto the fantasy?
What does it do for you?

AND FINALLY ... DECIDE IF IT MIGHT BE OKAY TO LET IT GO…

Totally up to you…
