SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - WINTER CLEAN UP

All of us who use computers know how important it is to do disc clean up - clearing space for new work.

We humans have that same need.

We also require clearing out our emotional and metaphorical disc space!

WIPING OUT EMOTIONAL SPAM

Think about all those old 'done to's' that you obsess about late into the night…

Make a list of all the insults, hurts, and unkindnesses you can come up with - all the 'he saids', 'they promised', 'I got set ups', insulted, treated badly…

Really pay attention to how you feel as you do this.
Hurts a little?

What do you imagine would happen if you could let all that garbage go?

Do you need to hold onto it for any reason?
Is there a lesson for you to learn?
A conversation that needs to happen?

DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO…
AND THEN…
ERASE! ERASE!

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - OUCH!

We tend to get caught in our expectations of how it all should be and how we should feel.

We get tangled in webs of old beliefs from a hundred different sources… and the next thing we know we lose touch with the reality of the moment… and are ensnarled in the contorted stories we tell ourselves that open the door to envy and jealousy and so much unnecessary hurt!

Want to avoid those tangled webs?

Here's the formula:

1)  ALLOW - Feelings and reality - no judgments - tell it like it is!  Feeling angry, sad, whatever is allowed!  'Making nice' can be highly toxic!

2)  RELEASE - Expectations and all the 'shoulds'!  Then feel any negative tension drain away…

3)  RE-DO - If you have done #1 and #2 then this is not only possible but… do-able!

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - UPSEY DAISY!

Let's face it - for all of us there are times when it feels like it is all falling down around us, right?

What's important is to acknowledge the impact of the crash!

Yeah, it can feel overwhelming.  That's real life.  What we want to avoid is playing tough, and then wondering why we are feeling down!

It's natural to feel like hiding under the bed, it's part of our nature to feel like it's not fair, or to look at other peoples' lives (from the outside) and decide that they have it easier…

What is not healthy is to start bullying ourselves at these times - the old standbys: 'It's your own fault', 'You deserve it' - you know this list, right?  Really toxic!    

Check it out and listen for it.  Life is hard enough without that pile on!

FOUR STEPS TO GET YOU THROUGH THE DOWNTIMES:

1)  Acknowledge the tough stuff!

2)  Make a list of what's getting to you.

3)  Release tension:
   Play victim!  Yes, really get into it!  
    Remember the operative word is 'play'!  

This means exaggeration!  Try howling.  A good 'AOOOOO!' straight out of the wolf playbook tends to help!  
Your goal here is to release some of the tension that we tend to feel during these times.  And if you can create a good laugh, so much the better!

4)  Finally do something!  
During these high stress times we sometimes feel paralyzed, so you are again looking to release the tied up energy by movement - go for a walk, sing a song… it doesn't have to be something that solves the problem!
