TUNE IN…

It is so easy to complain, right?
Let's face it, life is full of annoying hassles that just ask to be kvetched about…

Some minor, some major…
BUT

If you're still breathing, use your senses to feel the beauty around you - it's there…

The amazing, changing sky…

The song of the birds…
The acrobatic antics of the squirrels…

And then there is the love we find.

Each day has its moments if you stay tuned in!

What do ya say?  You feel it, right?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - TESTING…TESTING…

We see this testing behavior, the pushing of limits to the breaking point, in young children, seemingly, and counter intuitively, at times when parental stress is the highest!

Mom is at her wits end, Dad is ready to snap, (think road trip) and when it seems like things can't get any worse, the yelling and demands from that back seat intensify.

Perhaps children who seldom have the ability to put complex feelings into words are asking:

'Will you still love me - and want to keep me - when things are really difficult?'

DANCE WITH IT!   EXPERIENTIAL APPS
An opportunity to experiment with some fun ideas...

PROVE THAT YOU LOVE ME…

As long as we are doing this testing behavior we are still living in our pasts when the balance of power was not in our favor!

Parents have ultimate power.
In grade school it's teachers…
During adolescence it's a teeter-totter - boy/girlfriend up… boy/girlfriend down…

In a perfect world we would have used this one up by the time we head off into the grown up world, right?

So, this exercise is real simple:

Next time you find yourself, or someone else 'testing' - acting out in that particularly pushing/prodding way - yes, we might call it obnoxious or maybe sometimes even passive/aggressive…

Next time ask yourself:
Who has the power?
And is this a healthy way to deal with it?

GLUG, GLUG, GLUG…

So, we all remember that fable about the scorpion and the turtle, right?

You know, the one where the scorpion asks the turtle to ferry it across the river.  Of course the scorpion, promising to behave, stings the turtle mid-stream…

Remember the punch line?

"Hey, " explains Senor Scorpion to the confused and dying turtle, "what can I say?  It's in my nature…"

So the question for us is:

How many times have we refused to see our friendly neighborhood scorpions for what they are… and imagined that we and our amazing - love, intelligence, persistence, being on the side of the angels - (pick any or all of the above) - could turn them into cuddly, lovey, cute, sweet…

You know what I'm saying, right?

GLUG, GLUG, GLUG…

What do ya say?
Ready to give up on this one?

THANKSGIVING?

So, what’s in a word?
We are told the first Thanksgiving was a moment of gratitude by the Pilgrims to the Native Americans who helped them survive that harsh first winter.  Of course the payback was to inflict all the plagues of ‘civilization’ – disease, greed and usurping land…

Although counterintuitive, it is not unusual for us to be intimidated and feel resentful towards those who help us.

Remember the James Taylor song:
“Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way that you feel…”
Who are you thankful to and how do you show it?
