SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - STUCK?

Obsessing is like a needle stuck on an old fashioned record player…
Imagine that sound.  That is the sound of obsessing…

It's like poking a sore tooth…
Imagine that sensation.  That is the feeling of obsessing…

It's like one step forward, one step back, repeat and repeat…
That is the kinesthetic rhythm of obsessing…

Although we sometimes confuse them, obsessing is very different from focusing and fixing!

FORWARD MOMENTUM IS THE KEY TO 'FIXING' PROBLEMS… EVEN IF IT'S MEASURED IN INCHES!

Try this:  Think about a situation where you feel stuck.

Describe it to yourself.  Who are the players?  What do they look like?  How do they sound?  This is the old, maybe original, story…

Now, change it.  Remember this is an experiment.  Your goal is to create momentum in your story…

To do this use your creativity and imagination.  This is meant as an interesting and fun experiment.
If it does not feel comfortable to you:  Stop now.

You can imagine changing the time period, the clothes, the sound of the voices, the size of the 'actors'.

What you are doing is shaking up the stuck place so that your wonderful mind can move on and heal the problem!

Try it and see what happens.

SHAKE IT ON UP!

A little girl was playing scrabble with her older sibs - and they were winning.

Suddenly, with a gleam in her eye, she grabbed hold of the board, shook it mightily, and yelled: "Earthquake!  Earthquake!"

A simple tale…
And a powerful message:

Stuck?  Re-invent it!

What do ya say?
You get the power of this mantra, right?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING - ANGRY MUCH?

Clearly, anger is a normal and necessary human emotion.
It allows us to set boundaries with others - to mark our territory and speak out when those boundaries are violated.

However, when this emotion, one of many we humans have been gifted with, becomes a default position we get in trouble…

Being stuck in any one emotional state is just that - stuck!

Here's how one person put it when someone suggested she tell the person she was angry with how she felt:

"Yeah," she said, "but if he apologizes to me, I can't be mad at him and he's a great place to put all my anger…"

She was saying she needed someone to stay angry at - to maintain this feeling - the charge that comes with anger.

Does this fit for you?
Sometimes we seem to believe that holding on to being angry is so much a part of who we are that without it we are lost…

Here's an interesting experiment:
Ask yourself what would happen if you release the anger you carry with you?
Not swallow it, not vent it, but work through it …
What might take its place?

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANSWERS?

“Listen,” he complained on his second visit.

“I’ve been thinking about what you said.  All this stuff seems easy and really clear to you, but I don’t get it.”

“Is it really possible for me to change?  I mean, I’ve been dealing with these problems for a long time now and they seem pretty much a part of me …’

What I’m saying…” he went on, “I want to believe in change but…  Stuck is stuck.  Isn’t it?

What do ya think?

Ever felt this way yourself?

Looking for that magic wand?

SERIOUSLY SPEAKING

Being stuck means not having a sound exit strategy.

In life we always need to be able to imagine our next step – even if it’s just across the street!

Remember that play by Existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre called "No Exit"?  In it hell was defined as a room with no way out...(read more)

In reality since all nature is in a state of flux, our belief about being stuck is just that – a belief!

To recognize the silver lining in a situation does not mean to be a Pollyanna – we need to see things realistically, to look at a situation square on – especially one that seems negative.

The silver linings are almost always there, but when we try to ‘override’ the negative they can stay hidden.

So:
First call it like it is!

“This sucks!”

“I hate it!”

“I can’t stand it!”

“I want to kill…”

You get the idea – If you want to rant and rave, go for it – just be respectful of your neighbors!

Second:  Ask yourself if there could possibly be a hidden message.  What can you learn from this position?

(Remember Mary from yesterday’s post?  Her message was:  time to quit!

You might have to probe a little but with perseverance and smarts you’ll find it.

Malcolm Forbes said: “Diamonds are nothing more than chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs.”

Ask yourself if you’re still ‘becoming’, evolving in the situation.  Does it still have juice for you or have you already reached the diamond stage and it’s time to move on?

Third:  Go for it!  Life is short.  Pay attention to what it’s telling you!
