The fallacy of dealing with anger - that the response has to be
extreme - often stops us from pushing back when someone turns their anger on
us.
"It's not nice to act that way"
we say. "I'll be the bigger
person!"
Or…
We wait to respond until we are up to our
ears in rage and then find our response is so intense we feel bad … and
sometimes actually come off looking like the bad guy!
DANCE WITH IT! EXPERIENTIAL APPS
An opportunity to experiment with some fun ideas…
PRACTICING THE ART OF DEFLECTION
Here's the experiment:
Step 1:
Remember a situation where you were clearly getting
dumped on.
(We are practicing this using
a physical image - but remember this is only a metaphor!)
Imagine a fist flies at you!
You step to the side and use your arm to swing that fist to
the side.
And then you step into the zone and… POWEEE!
ZAP!
Your attacker is looking up at you from the floor with an
expression of wonder…
Fun, huh?
Step 2:
Now practice that same thing using words…
