Once when someone praised the work of
Mother Teresa she is alleged to have responded by saying that she would not be
doing this work if it did not reward her!
However, since most of us don't live on
that saintly level, we do need acknowledgment and applause for what we do.
The question is how to make your
contribution known without stepping over the line into obnoxious self
congratulation and praise…
DANCE WITH IT! EXPERIENTIAL APPS
An opportunity to
experiment with some fun ideas…
'WOO
HOO! LOOK AT ME! AREN'T I GREAT!'
Nope! Uh uh… definitely does not cut it!
But,
erasing your efforts on the part of others doesn't do it either!
So,
how to get the recognition and acknowledgment you want?
Try
these:
Instead
of just stepping in quietly, say:
"Do
you need my help?"
Instead
of downplaying your effort say:
"It
did take time and if it made a difference it was worth it!"
When
someone says 'thank you' instead of saying 'it's nothing' try:
"I'm
glad my help made a difference!"
You
get the idea, right?
You
are acknowledging your own effort!
