We begin getting defined by others at a very early age.
Our parents say:
"She's a very
cautious child…"
"He's a troublemaker…"
"She's the smart one…"
And on and on…
When these labels are pinned onto us at such an early age, they often
become internalized - and stick!
After awhile, we start to appropriate these descriptions of ourselves as
if they were set in concrete…
DANCE WITH IT! EXPERIENTIAL APPS
An
opportunity to experiment with some fun
ideas...
WANT TO STRETCH AND EXPAND YOUR REPERTOIRE? TRY THIS REALLY FUN EXPERIMENT…
One day this week - okay, maybe one hour - pretend you are an actor.
Choose a role you secretly envy - one of those 'I wish I could be like that' parts.
Now give yourself permission to BE LIKE THAT!
You can do this out loud, out in the world, with a friend…
or even silently, in the privacy of your own home.
What role did you choose?
How much
of a stretch was it?
How do
you feel playing this character?
Now think about what you learned doing this.
Have you bought into other people's, long ago definitions of who you are?
Think you might want to stretch a little?
