Not to be too ‘touchy-feely’ about it – BUT it’s all about choices. What happens is often out of our control but how we react to it is ours!
We might be conditioned to act in certain ways – by our society, our families, our personal history … However, we do have the ability to make new choices and respond differently.
We are not talking about denial.
Acknowledging a feeling is part of the way we can change it. Once we do this, we have the capacity to choose to release that feeling and put something different in its place.
This flexibility is a component of the wonderful plasticity of our minds!

HERE’S A LITTLE PERSONAL RESEARCH YOU CAN TRY:
Think about a situation that has been challenging for you.
Imagine you are back in that situation...
Ask yourself the following questions:
What did you feel in that moment?
Now ask yourself where this feeling came from – how did you learn to have this response to that particular situation? Nothing is written in stone! Remember some people see a snake and think “beautiful…”
Now ask yourself if your response to this situation serves you well… If it does – great! Hang on to it!
If it doesn’t:
Imagine that you can erase the old response! What happens?
Now imagine you can put some other reaction into your equation – Take a deep breathe and try on this new one…
Does it work better? Do you feel more able to take care of yourself?
IT CAN BE FUN TRYING ON NEW CLOTHES, RIGHT?
