SERIOUSLY SPEAKING – ANGER AND YOUR MENTAL HEALTH


Recognizing when you are angry is good for you – spraying it on others is not!

‘Venting’ is an excuse for dumping (in all senses of the word) your unhappiness on someone else and justifying it with pseudo-science.

It is only a momentary relief.  You still haven’t dealt with the problem and are only setting yourself up for backlash!

Take a deep breath – okay, about 4 of them - and then –
yes, count to 10!

Now step back from the moment and ask yourself what is getting under your skin?

ASK YOURSELF:

Is the person you are angry at really your enemy?

Do they deserve to be emotionally beaten up?

And, as trite as it sounds, would you like it if the tables were turned and they were attacking you?

And finally, an even better question:  Who did do this to you?

Bullying is not a behavior that comes out of thin air – we learn it!

As an experiment try having an imaginary dialog with whoever treated you this way…

Go back and forth a few times and see what happens.
