And speaking of the magic of our times, we were privileged to hear the music of Dave Brubeck who died yesterday morning one day short of his 92 birthday.
His music, his constant innovations, his stand against segregation, all made him a remarkable human and an icon of our times.
During the 7 decades of his career, this ambassador of jazz, who kept performing into his 90th year, was truly a master of flexibility in our changing times!

I wish I could be as flexible as Dave Brubeck was! and I just think about how incredibly flexible our grandparents had to be, by witnessing the constant innovations of the post-war world! My grandpa used mp3 as it were something he had constanly been using!

DeleteI remember seeing images of Brubeck at the Kennedy Center Honors a couple of years ago, at age 89... the smile on his face! What was it that the American philosopher Joseph Campbell said about "following your bliss"? Truly an inspiration to me.

DeleteDave Brubeck was also, amazingly, a real cowboy in his youth, who sang real oldschool cowboy songs.
